Guy Bennett was appointed Musical Director of the Belvedere Concert
Band in 1997.
In his professional life Guy is Senior Band Sergeant Major at the Royal
Military School of Music, Kneller Hall, a post he has held since March
2008. Prior to that Guy was Principal Percussionist and Band Sergeant
Major with Her Majesty's Band of the Royal Artillery based in Woolwich.
He also works as a free-lance percussionist throughout London and the
south-east.
Apart from learning percussion from the age of nine, Guy was also a keen
chorister, singing with the Kingston Parish Church choir and winning a
place in the West End production of 'Evita' in which he sang and performed
for three years.
Guy successfully auditioned for the Band of the Royal Artillery in 1985
and commenced as a Junior Bandsman. During his musical training he won
the Denis Brady Prize for Best Percussionist whilst attending the 'Pupils
Course' at the Royal Military School of Music.
In 1994 Guy, together with a fellow percussionist from the Band of the
Royal Artillery and two sopranos from the English National Opera, performed
the winning entry for the prestigious Evelyn Glenny Percussion Award where
she was the principal adjudicator.
